When Professor Allan Grey creates a communication device that works across hyperspace he finds that things are pretty radio-silent in our neck of the woods. Does that mean that there are few advanced societies surrounding us? The mystery is solved when a voice starts talking to him, the sole survivor of an ancient and advanced race whose own story is partly tied to a few secrets the professor has of his own. The discovery puts both Grey and his new friend in danger and it's going to take their collective wits to get out of it. Can he trust a creature that may have very different cultural and moral norms? Can he afford not to when everyone else is out to kill him?
