Kuro Ren is the nickname of hobby programmer and game designer G. R. Houston. He picked up the name Kuro by accident while playing Eve Online, with Kuro being a shortened version of his main PVP character's name. After four long years in Eve, Kuro has become quite fond of the name and so has adopted it as his nickname everywhere else.
The Ren part however is slightly newer. Due to Kuro being a Japanese word for black, it's is very common, so some distinguishing addition was needed. After fishing around for months for a short word that would along well with Kuro he had finally settled on Kuro Sai when he stumbled on Ren and adopted it immediately. Ren as evocative of ancient Japan as Kuro is. Wheras Sai is a farming implement turned blunt weapon; Ren means lotus in Japanese, a flower that is symbolic of enlightenment & spirituality in Hinduism and purity & detachment in Buddhism.
His first complete game is a free html 5 game called Bwahaha Dice with Death and was designed to explore one of the most basic and fascinating types of game that has been around throughout human history; the game of chance.
He's currently working on an infinite runner that takes a bad idea that nobody in their right mind would flesh out into a game and runs with it. (boom tish). It's not quite ready yet, and needs a few of the kinks worked out, but watch this space closer to Christmas.
While prototyping games, Kuro sometimes makes game assets that he thinks could be useful to other devs - and these he puts up on itch.io as well in case they are useful to someone.
